Department of Computer Science, College of Engineering, University of the Philippines Diliman.
Michael Casey introduced the concept of Library 2.0 in September 2005. Mr. Feria said that the Libraries of today must operate according to the expectations of its users. And in an increasingly technology literate population, libraries must integrate Web 2.0 into its offerings. From the old days of static Web 1.0, we now have the collaborative, dynamic technology that is Web 2.0.
Social Cataloging websites for instance, have gone into the realm of books. These websites include the like of Shelfari and LibraryThing, which allows users to “share” their books virtually. Mr. Feria also introduced to the delegates in the UP Film Institute the up-and-coming Web 3.0 technologies and new concerns for libraries in lieu of fast-changing technology: Participation, User-oriented services, Privacy, Personalization and Globalization.
